OcktoberFest Aims to Bring a New Identity to Calexico

October 19, 2018

The weather is changing and nights in Imperial Valley have an ideal temperature to drink a good craft beer at Calexico’s inaugural OcktoberFest.

Calexico Brewing Co. and the city of Calexico announced the event will take place Oct. 20 at Crummett Park from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. It will feature breweries from Imperial Valley, Mexicali and San Diego, including Nickel Beer Co., Cerveza Tres B, El Sarmiento Ale, Pentagonal, Belching Beaver, Humble Farmer Brewery, Brew Capital, Averno Cerveceria, and Cerveza Fauna.

“I do believe this event will give a new image to Calexico since we are doing something that has never been done before in the heart of our city,” said Jose Luis Yepez, co-owner of Calexico Brewery Co.

He added, “We want to show the community that Calexico is a fun place to be and have a good time regardless whether you are from the Valley or from across the border.”

Admission will be $10 and cover the purchase of beer from the participating breweries. There will also be live music from the International Mighty Mushroom, Klandestino Latin Rock, Mellobean, and others.

Calexico Assistant City Manager Miguel Figueroa said the event came about because of the close partnership between the city and Calexico Brewing Co., a company led by a new generation of entrepreneurs. Figueroa said the city wants to be inclusive with all businesses and make them part of the future of Calexico.

“This is going to symbolize how the city wants to bring the community activities, and offer local vendors the opportunity to showcase their products and services that will create economic development opportunities for them,” Figueroa said.

The city has sponsorship packages available and information is available by calling the Economic Development office at (760)768-2177.
