Early registration is currently underway and will run through Friday (August 24) for the annual 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb at IV Expo to be held on September 8.

“As our nation approaches the 17th anniversary of September 11th, here’s your chance to show others that the phrase ‘Never Forget’ is more than a slogan. Back up those words and join the Westmorland Fire Fighters, IV Expo and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) for the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at IV Expo” said coordinator Tiffinie Macias, business assistant at Imperial Valley Expo.
Participants will climb the grandstands multiple times for a total of 110 stories, representing the number of floors in the Twin Towers. Registration is open to the public at http://events.firehero.org/site/TR?fr_id=1984&pg=entry
Everyone will receive a photo ID of one of the fallen heroes of 9-11. Onsite registration also will be available at 6:30 pm at the IV Expo/Plaza Building on the day of the event. The climb starts at 8pm.
The 9-11 Memorial Stair Climbs are not timed race events, but a way for firefighters and members of the community to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live.
“Your individual tribute not only remembers the sacrifice of an FDNY firefighter, but symbolically completes their heroic journey to save others,” Macias said.
“The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is an opportunity for anyone in the community to demonstrate respect and admiration for these courageous men who gave their lives trying to save others. It’s also a way to show their loved ones that we will never forget them,” said Macias. “We want to be sure that each of those firefighters is represented by someone climbing the stairwell of the grandstands at the IV Expo.”
The climb’s proceeds will benefit the FDNY Counseling Services Unit and the programs provided by the NFFF to support the families of our nation’s fallen firefighters. For more information about the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climbs and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, go to www.firehero.org.
This is the fifth year the Stair Climb has been held at the IV Expo.
