BEING SOMEBODY WHO LIKES TO BE OUTDOORS when the weather permits, playing
a round of golf has its rewards.
I’ve become a regular at Broken Spoke golf course lately.
It’s an executive size course in El Centro that affords a fellow like me a
chance to look good on the links and takes only about an hour to play nine
holes.
And it’s cheap too. I can’ t imagine why there haven’t been more golfers
at this establishment. It’s OK because that means I can play a lot faster
and hassle free. And I can can use most of the clubs in my bag.
So, if you’re looking for a quick nine or even quicker 18 (you can go
around twice, if you want) perhaps you should consider this hidden gem
near the freeway and the Imperial Valley Mall.
We are finding it interesting to see a lot of businesses that don’t use
newspaper advertising to their advantage and are surprised by this because
it’s something that actually works. You can see a tangible product in
front of you.
Compare that with the “now you see it, now you don’t” effect of radio and
television. Their messages about your business or service are available
only when they can get you on the air. Then they disappear. If you’re not
watching or listening at the appropriate time, too bad.
Newspapers afford the reader the opportunity to view a message or read a
story at his or her leisure. And nothing disappears from the page.
So, how come more businesses don’t use this service? They say it’s “too
expensive” even though in comparison to the amount for radio and TV, you
are spending less and reaching more or just as many people.
You can also get specific with your message at a special time of year to
highlight a special event.
I think the golf courses and restaurants of the Valley would have a lot
more patrons if they put this service to better use. Advertising is the
lifeblood of newspapering and the lifeblood of a lot of businesses that
could be doing considerably better than they are. I have yet to be in an
establishment that used newspaper advertising that didn’t have customers
in it.
Get with the program. Outsmart the Big Box stores by getting your message
out to the public. You probably have bargains that people can pick up
without driving 15 to 150 miles to get. Give it a try. Improve your
quality of life today!
MOM GETS HER SPECIAL DAY ONCE more and we think it is one of the best days
of the year. If you didn’t call your mother, then shame on you. And if you
didn’t send her or bring her a gift, double shame.
This is one of the best days of the year for flowers, jewelry, dinner out
and more. It’s a day to treat mom, and forget about practical gifts such
as coffee makers, juicers or margarita makers. Of course, the margarita
maker may have come in handy over the weekend, so maybe that is a good
gift!
To all the moms in the world, we hope your special day was, indeed, a
special one.
Peace.
